Application Fees
Degree seeking applicants must pay a $75 non-refundable application fee. Non-degree applicants and former students re-admitting must pay a non-refundable $25 application fee.
Virginia Tech Graduate School Fee Waivers
A Virginia Tech Graduate School application fee waiver request is submitted on the Fee Waiver Request tab in the online application. Application fee waiver codes are issued Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5p.m. Please allow 5-7 business days for processing of the fee waiver request.
Application fees are non-refundable after the application is submitted. Please submit an application fee waiver request in advance of application submission for consideration.
Departments seeking application fee waiver codes for single use or continuous use should complete the fee waiver request form within Slate.

Fee Waiver Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! It is possible for programs to waive application fees for prospective students. Please contact your program of interest for more information.
If approved, the application fee waiver will be applied to your account. Please allow at least 5-7 business days for this process to take place. If you have any questions, please contact grads@vt.edu.
No. If your prospective program is waiving the application fee, they will supply you with the code (either individually or broadcasted on their website). Please enter the given code at the end of the application prior to submitting. If the code is not entered prior to submission, you may be liable for the application fee.
The Graduate School may only waive application fees for the criteria listed above on this webpage, with proper documentation and completion of the fee waiver request.
Please allow 5-7 business days for review. The application fee waiver request must be complete with the prospective program, entry term, qualifying criteria, and proper documentation. Incomplete requests will not be reviewed for consideration.
One waiver code may be issued per qualifying reason. These codes are a one-time-use only. An applicant may not use the same qualifying reason and documentation to apply for another program/degree type.
Please first review your fee waiver request. The program, entry term, qualifying criteria, and proper documentation MUST be entered for review and consideration. Supporting documentation (i.e., email, screenshot, scanned document, ID, etc.) must be provided. Please contact grads@vt.edu for any additional questions.
No. If you qualify for an application fee waiver via the Graduate School, it will be applied to your account exclusively. If your prospective program wishes to grant you an application fee waiver, it will not work with another account. Please confirm your email address for accuracy as this may affect your process.
The Graduate School is unable to grant application fee waivers, based on financial need. Please review our approved criteria listed above.
No. The application fee waiver request must be completed, reviewed, and approved prior to submitting the application. Last minute fee waiver requests will be at jeopardy for a late submission of the application.
The Graduate School does not offer reimbursement for application fees.

REDUCED RATE
Teachers and other school administrators in Virginia qualify for a special reduced tuition rate and should complete the Request for Reduced Tuition Rate for Grades K-12 form. A new form is needed each fall for the upcoming academic year. Please route the completed form to grads@vt.edu.
