Recruitment Resources

Resources for Faculty and Staff

Faculty and Staff are encouraged to partner with the Office of Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives to maximize the recruitment and retention of graduate students. Please feel free to contact 540-231-6529 to learn about resources available to improve the recruitment and diversity strategies for your program.

In August 2019, the Graduate School transitioned from using Connect© to Slate© as our comprehensive CRM for prospective student recruitment and admission. Throughout the upcoming 2019-2020 academic year, we will build our graduate admission application in Slate for an anticipated launch in fall 2020 for the 2021 application cycle.

Trainings are provided monthly on Slate functionality; please read the Graduate School bulletin for postings on training offerings and signing up to attend. Questions related to Slate© should be directed to Janice Austin at (

If you do not currently receive the Graduate School bulletin, please contact Sue Kass at to be added to the listserv.

Recruitment and Diversity Summit

Each year, just before the Fall semester starts, the Graduate School holds a recruitment and diversity summit meeting. Discussion topics include recruitment, enrollment, the fall recruitment schedule, the Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Supporting Institutes (HBCU/MSI) Research Summit, and more.

Coordinated Site Visits Program

The purpose of the CSVP is to recruit competitive graduate students who identify as members of underrepresented groups and to implement effective retention strategies to integrate these students into the Virginia Tech community, while establishing and maintaining strong connections with faculty from minority serving institutions.

Virginia Tech Graduate & Professional School Fair

The Graduate Student Assembly hosts an annual recruitment fair typically held in late September. The 2019 Fair will be held on Monday, September 23, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Squires Student Center, Commonwealth Ballroom (Second Floor), on the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus. Colleges, departments, and programs are encouraged to purchase a booth to recruit VT students and students from the surrounding area.
