In addition to the Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Programs (IGEPs), the university offers several other graduate degree programs with an interdisciplinary focus. Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought (ASPECT)
The ASPECT Ph.D. program fosters a critical engagement between domains of inquiry in the humanities, the social sciences, and the arts.
Geospatial and Environmental Analysis
The interdisciplinary doctoral program focuses on the application of geospatial analysis for improving the science, management, and conservation of natural resources and the environment.
Halting Antimicrobial Resistance Dissemination (HEARD)
This interdisciplinary project funded, through a five-year $3.6 million National Science Foundation Partnership in International Research and Education (PIRE) grant and led by Drs. Peter Vikesland and Amy Pruden, seeks to halt wastewater derived antimicrobial resistance dissemination. They recognized that societal use of antimicrobial drugs and wastewater treatment processes collectively affect the fluctuations of pharmaceuticals, antimicrobial resistant organisms, and antimicrobial resistance elements. All of the Virginia Tech graduate students involved in the effort will participate in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Program (IGEP) and will earn certificates in International Research Abroad.

Molecular and Cellular Biology
This program is an opportunity for Ph.D.-seeking students to obtain interdisciplinary training in the molecular mechanisms that underpin life, while pursuing research projects in Cell Signaling and Cancer, Inflammation and Immunity, Microbiology, and Neurobiology

Science and Technology Studies
Science and Technology Studies (STS) is a growing field that draws on the full range of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities to examine the ways that science and technology shape, and are shaped by, our society, politics, and culture.
Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health
Our research-intensive, multidisciplinary Ph.D. program in the biomedical and health sciences emphasizes the concept of “translational science” across multiple levels of inquiry. We bring together students from the life, behavioral, physical, engineering, and computational sciences to consider today’s major health challenges.
