Conveniently located near the library, Squires Student Center, academic buildings, and downtown Blacksburg, the Graduate Life Center (GLC) provides an intellectually stimulating and rich learning environment through spaces, services and programming that enhance the graduate education experience, meet the unique needs of graduate and professional students, and encourage and facilitate their active participation in the graduate community.
The Center’s primary mission and function are to promote graduate education and graduate community. In this capacity, the Center and its various functional areas are used for events and services organized or held by or for the Graduate School, graduate students, and graduate alumni. The GLC provides a hub for graduate student life, offering students opportunities to meet and collaborate with faculty and peers across disciplines, develop skills for academic and professional success, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
The establishment of the Graduate Life Center at Donaldson Brown affirms Virginia Tech's continued commitment to building a graduate community that enhances the graduate education experience. The Center is a joint endeavor of the Graduate School and the Division of Student Affairs, with primary partners including Student Engagement and Campus Life.
The Graduate Life Center offers students a variety of spaces in which to study, connect, collaborate, socialize, and relax. Additionally, students can reserve spaces for meetings, presentations, seminars, and other events.
In addition to meeting rooms, the GLC houses a study room, reading room, computer lab, and student lounge. There is an Au Bon Pan on the main floor near the GLC entrance that is open five days a week while classes are in session.
There are two outdoor spaces for gathering, studying, enjoying a meal, or chatting with friends: the GLC Patio outside the entrance across from Squires Student Center, and a courtyard enclosed by shrubs near the student lounge. Students also often use the lawn adjacent to the GLC Patio for games, activities, picnics, and more.
The GLC also has a single user, all-gender restroom located on the on the first floor near the elevator. Men's and women's restrooms also are available on the first and second floor public spaces and are marked by signage.
If you need a lactation room, the GLC Welcome Center staff will help you find a private space.
Service animals are always welcome in the GLC and Graduate School.
For any other accessibility needs, please let the Welcome Center staff or the Graduate School receptionist know and we will be happy to assist in any way we can.
