Amy Pruden joined the Graduate School in August 2014. She is the W. Thomas Rice Professor in Engineering in the Charles E. Via Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and is the Director of Strategic Planning of the Virginia Tech Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS) Water Sustainability Thrust.

Dr. Pruden joined Virginia Tech in 2008 after serving for six years as an Assistant Professor at Colorado State University. Her research focuses on characterizing the microbiome of our water infrastructure and understanding environmental pathways for the spread of antibiotic resistance.

At the Graduate School, she is responsible for administering the Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Programs (IGEPs), advising Interdisciplinary Ph.D. students and directing the Indivdualized Interdisciplinary Ph.D. (IPhD) program.
